An independent review of your website, carried out by hand on a phone as well as a desktop. You receive a written report setting out what is holding your site back, and the order in which to address it.
Payment by Stripe. We ask only for your website address and an email address.
Most websites are built once and never looked at again. In the years that follow, customers move to their phones. The site continues to load, so nothing appears to be wrong. But when a site is difficult to use on a phone, people simply leave, and the business never learns why.
The review identifies precisely what is holding your site back, and what to address first. In most cases it is four or five specific issues rather than a case for rebuilding.
The same review is applied to every website. Anything we find is explained in full, with the evidence behind it.
The majority of your customers will view your site on a phone. We establish whether the page fits the screen properly, or whether visitors must pinch and zoom simply to read it. Where they have to, most abandon the site. This is also, consistently, the least expensive area to put right.
We measure how long a visitor waits before your site appears. Departures begin at around three seconds, and the effect is more pronounced on mobile networks. We also identify pages carrying far more weight than their content requires.
We establish whether browsers are displaying a "Not secure" warning against your address, and whether the software your site runs on still receives security updates. If you accept card payments, this carries more weight than anything else in the review.
We examine what search engines see when they read your site, and whether older links now lead to pages that no longer exist. The latter can discard years of accumulated visibility, and there is no warning when it happens.
Taken from a completed review of an Australian online retailer. The client's name has been removed.
The site was built as a single page of fixed width. A phone cannot rearrange it, so it reduces the entire page until it fits the screen. Customers must zoom in to read a product name or locate the Add to Cart button, and most do not persevere.
The issue, the evidence behind it, and what changes once it is addressed.
Sent to your email within 24 hours of your order.
Ordered by what each issue is costing you, rather than an undifferentiated list of forty items you cannot act on.
Each issue is stated with the measurement behind it, so nothing in the report rests on opinion.
Numbered and sequenced. Where an item is a short configuration change you can make yourself, we say so rather than including it in a quotation.
Together with how you compare against other Australian businesses we have reviewed.
Which allows us to tell you where your site sits.
No. The report arrives by email and closes with a single line noting that we also carry out the work, and what it costs. Many clients take the report to their own developer and we hear nothing further. At this fee that is a perfectly acceptable outcome.
We say so and refund the fee. It happens more often than you might expect, and a report padded with immaterial findings is of no use to anyone.
Your website address and an email address. Nothing further. Everything we examine is already visible to any customer, phone or search engine.
Then the review would cover your Google listing, your reviews and your photographs, which for many businesses carries more weight than a website does. Contact us beforehand and we will tell you honestly whether it justifies the fee.
The fee rises to $19.99 on 1 September.
